October 1, 2025 – St. John’s, NL:  Mining NL recently held its 2024 Annual General Meeting in St. John’s, celebrating the mineral resources sector. At the AGM, results of member nominations were announced as new members joined the Board of Directors and outgoing members were thanked for their contribution.

Recently, during the first Board of Directors meeting following the AGM, the new officer roles were ratified by the Board. James Powell began his one-year term as Chair of the Board of Directors. Lawrence Winter, Vice President Exploration with Altius Minerals Corp., was acclaimed as Vice Chair.

Three new positions of Directors have been filled, who will serve a three-year term. The new Directors are:

  • Graham Letto – Director, General Manager Stakeholder Relations, Tacora Resources Inc. (Mineral Resources Company);
  • Jared Saunders – Director, Vice President Sustainability, New Found Gold Corp. (Exploration);
  • Crispin Pike – Director, Vice President Exploration, Firefly Metals Ltd. (Exploration);


During the AGM, Mining NL also acknowledged the following outgoing board directors for their dedicated service:


  • Paul McNeill, Vice President Exploration, NexGold Mining Corp. (Past Chair);
  • Paul Moore, Vice President Exploration, Buchans Resources Ltd. and Canterra Minerals Corp.


Members of the new Board of Directors commence their role with immediate effect, joining current serving directors:

  • Amy Stoodley-Thorne, Principal Advisor, External Affairs and Media, Rio Tinto, IOC.
  • Justin Hewitt, Partner, Stewart McKelvey
  • Pieter Loock, General Manager, Voisey’s Bay Mine, Vale Base Metals.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s mineral resources sector is worth $6.1 billion – powering jobs, innovation and growth in rural and remote regions of the province. With $258 million in investment forecasted in exploration for 2025, and more than $1 billion spent since 2021, there’s significant untapped mineral potential.
