The Mining Industry Newfoundland and Labrador (MINL) recognizes that the future of mining in our province, and indeed in Canada, hinges on sustainable, responsible, and environmentally-conscious practices. As an advocate for our members, we’re proud to align with national initiatives championed by entities such as Natural Resources Canada. Their dedication to the highest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards underscores the direction we envision for the mining sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.
MINL members are proactive in adapting measures to enhance mining’s sustainability. This is evident in our support for industry-wide benchmarks like the Mining Association of Canada’s “Towards Sustainable Mining” and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s “e3 Plus: A Framework for Responsible Exploration“. Beyond this, we champion research and initiatives like that undertaken by CanmetMINING which emphasize green mining technologies, efficient waste management strategies, and the shift towards energy-efficient operations, all in line with Canada’s ambition for net-zero emissions by 2050.
MINL takes pride in our province’s rich mining heritage and remains committed to ensuring its continuity. This, we believe, can be achieved through a balance of economic growth and environmental responsibility. As we navigate this journey, the Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan provides a blueprint that aligns with our goals, emphasizing economic development, Indigenous participation, and environmental conservation.
